Stress

Sometimes we use tabletops to explain our ideas. Here is a little brainstorm about stress.

Garden Renovations Phase 2

We worked in the rain, and are in the process of figuring out exactly where the planter boxes will go.

Almost done with the planter box #2

After placing the first planter box, we started removing plants from the old planter box number 2.

We also emptied out a lot of the soil.

We found lots of wildlife!

Here's a fun drawing of the things found in the garden!

Then we got them in place!

It turns out that the planter boxes were not flush, so we are re-doing some of the assembly.

Writing Stories

When we are not working in the garden, we are sometimes writing stories. Sometimes we can be found writing stories in the garden. Some of our story titles are:

"Windy Day"

Valentino
Elias
Dante
Bri
Bernardo
Jesus
Isaac

"Swamp Story"

Jacob
Elias
Dante
Bri
Bernardo
Jesus
Isaac

"Forest Story"

Jacob
Bri
Bernardo
Isaac

"Garden Story"

Sometimes pictures help spark the imagination. Here is one of them.

It can be hard to keep track of what everyone is working on as well, so here is what we use to track current work.

The students first write the stories, then print them to be turned in for editing. Then they make the edits and re-submit their stories, earning points for language, editing, and effort via a rubric that is submitted with each draft.

Jesus typing his hand-written story.

Isaac printing his first draft after hand-writing his story.

Bri's tablet and a draft with corrections she is working on.

Mr. Grimm's to do list: drafts to be edited.

Garden Renovations Phase 1

We are going to be moving some things around out in the garden. Here is our updated March Planning

First we established our

Composter

Now,

We are going to remove and disassemble the old planter boxes, and make new ones with better wood. We are using Con Common Redwood. Here are the plans for the planter boxes:

Here are some pictures from the work this week.

We put most of the old soil into buckets and temporarily stored the soil in the compost bin.

Then we removed the planter box and began disassembling it.

Even though it wasn't Halloween, I thought I could do a little creepiness.

Brandon and Eric got us started on following the plans for the first planter box.

We finished the first layer of the first box by the end of the day.

We worked on these the next day as well.

At the end of day 2, we had one planter box completely built, and had begun the next box. Here they are piled on top of each other at the end of the day.

After finished the first box, several of the guys did their blog posts about the work
